What is Extender?
Basically, Extenders are devices that are used to extend the coverage of the existing wireless router. These are used in large homes or offices. Extenders are also called as boosters as they boost the coverage area. Extenders can be used for various types of network. The areas where the range is not proper are called dead spots. Steps to setup Netgear WN3500RP /WN2500RPv2 WiFi Range Extender:
1. Switch on the extender and wait until the power LED turns green.
2. The default network name (SSID) of the extender is NETGEAR_EXT. . Connect your wireless computer to the wireless network using this default network name.
3. Launch a web browser, it will automatically take you to the Netgear genie setup guide page.
4. Within the existing range, the genie will search for the networks. A list of existing wireless network is shown to you after the search is complete. You have to select your existing network name which you want to extend and then click on continue button.
5. If you have set the password for your network then it will ask you to type the passphrase before connection. Enter the passphrase and then click on continue button.
Note: If the name of your network is not visible to you in the list of the network then you have to check that your extender is within the range of main network or router.
6. Select the option of 5 GHz band if your router supports so otherwise select the option My router does not support 5 GHz band. Click on continue button.
Note: check the following points if the connection between extender and router failed to establish:
7. check for the password of the router.
8. Try to install the extender by placing it in the same room as the router.
9. Turn off and on all the devices to refresh the network.
10. After the connection is setup, a window opens asking you that you want to change the settings of the extenders. If no, then you have to click on finalize button to complete the setup process. It is recommended that change the settings afterward. You can change the settings afterward by making an account on mywifiext.net sign up page.
11. A screen displays after two minutes. After this happens, your computer is disconnected from the extender wireless network. Review the settings and make sure they are correct.
12. Now connect your wireless computer with the extender network.
13. Go back to genie screen of the extender after connecting with the extender network and check the option. My wireless devices are connected to the Extender network.
14. The Extender is successfully installed or setup if you see a page below. Now click on finish button to complete the setup process.
